So much better than using a belt from my bathrobe. I don’t have to grip the ends tightly, and it keeps me stretched between sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Questions, answered honestly

Can't I just use a towel or a belt?
You can, and lots of people start there. The trouble is what makes most people stop: towels slip off your foot, belts and thin straps hurt your hands, and your arms get tired before your hamstrings let go. You also have to bend forward to hook your foot. BendJoy's two handles and foot bar fix those problems, so the stretch is comfortable enough to hold and easy enough to do every day. The stretch isn't new. Being able to stick with it is.
Will it hurt? It looks a bit intense.
It only pulls as hard as you pull. You choose how far to draw the handles, start light, and ease off the moment it stops feeling like a stretch. A good stretch feels like gentle tension, not pain. Nothing is locked or spring-loaded, and nobody is pushing your leg.
I have sciatica or nerve pain down my leg. Is this for me?
Maybe not right now. BendJoy is made for the stiffness and tightness that comes from sitting, age and recovery. Some people with nerve pain find hamstring stretching makes it worse, especially during a flare. If pain shoots, burns, tingles or goes numb down your leg, stop and get checked by a professional first. If you're cleared to stretch, start with the knee bent and a very light pull.
What if my back problem is a disc, not tight hamstrings?
BendJoy doesn't diagnose anything, and it isn't a treatment for disc problems. If you have numbness, weakness, or pain that travels down your leg, see a doctor or physical therapist before you start any stretching routine.
I've had a knee or hip replacement. Is it safe?
Please check with your surgeon or physical therapist first, especially in the early weeks or if you've been given movement precautions. Follow the limits they set. Many people use a strap for these stretches during recovery, and you can bring BendJoy to your next session and ask your PT which positions are right for you. The handles help you reach your foot without bending forward, but your restrictions still come first.
My PT pushed too hard. I don't want to be forced again.
That's exactly why BendJoy is built this way. You set the tension, you hold it, and you let go whenever you want. “Less for longer” is a good rule: gentle, frequent stretches tend to be easier to stick with than one hard session.
I'm very stiff, or I'm older, taller, shorter or bigger. Will it work for me?
BendJoy is made to meet you where you are today. You use it lying down or sitting up, so you don't need balance or a trip to the floor, and you can start with a bent knee and a light pull. You don't need to be flexible to start. That's the point.
My hands and arms aren't very strong. Can I still use it?
The handles give you leverage, so you're not relying on a tight grip on a thin strap, and the foot bar holds your foot so your fingers don't have to. It does take some arm use, so look at the photos and video of the grip and judge for yourself.
Honestly, will I stick with it?
No tool can make anyone use it, but BendJoy asks very little. No floor, no class, no setup. Keep it next to the bed or the recliner and use it for a few minutes during a TV show. That's the routine people actually keep.
Isn't stiffness just part of getting older? Am I past the point where this helps?
Plenty of people in their 60s, 70s and beyond get more reach back with steady, gentle stretching, and people recovering from surgery often keep improving well past the timelines they were warned about. Results depend on what's causing your stiffness, and some problems (like severe joint damage or scar tissue) need medical care that no stretcher replaces. For everyday tightness from sitting, age and recovery, a little every week adds up, and stopping is how you lose it.
Will it help me get up off the floor?
We won't promise that. Getting up from the floor depends mostly on leg strength, balance and technique. Looser hips and hamstrings can make getting down and moving around on the floor feel easier, but BendJoy alone won't get you up. Ask a physical therapist about strength and balance work too.
Why does it cost more than a basic strap?
You're paying for the parts that make a stretch comfortable enough to repeat: two solid handles and a foot bar that stays put. It's a one-time cost for something you can use every day at home. Plus it comes with a 30-day guarantee, so you can try it risk-free.
Stiffness that crept in over time

It's Not Your Fault You're This Stiff

Nobody wakes up one day unable to reach their feet. It sneaks up on you. Hours in a chair. A bad hip. A new knee that won't quite bend. Your hamstrings, calves and hips get tighter, your lower back starts doing the work they used to do, and the small stuff gets hard: putting on socks, bending over the sink, getting into bed. So you try the usual fixes, and they fight you:

  • A towel that slips off your foot
  • A strap that hurts your hands and tires your arms first
  • A yoga class you can't keep up with
  • Appointments that help for a few days, then send you a bill

Why not just use a towel?

A towel slips off your foot. BendJoy's foot bar does not.

Two handles and a foot bar. You control the pull.

Plenty of people start with a towel, a belt or a plain yoga strap. The trouble is what makes most people stop: towels slip off your foot, belts and thin straps hurt your hands, your arms get tired before your hamstrings let go, and you have to bend forward just to hook your foot.

BendJoy is different. Your foot rests on the bar and stays put, and the two handles give you reach and leverage without a strong grip. Draw the handles toward you until you feel gentle tension, hold, breathe, then ease off. It isn't a replacement for your doctor or physical therapist. It's the piece you take home so the work keeps going.

  • You control how far the stretch goes
  • No bending forward to hook your foot
  • Use it any day, at home
